Christopher Chant

This book charts the history of steam locomotion and travel in the United States. It describes the earliest engines and how they were refined into the powerful locomotives which were still in use in the early 20th century. It also tells the story of the pioneer railroad builders who achieved “the impossible” in spanning a railroad across the vast plains and mountains of the United States.
