Yoichi
Ohira's cultural traditions from the Oriental world from which he
ultimately derives, emerge even more peremptorily, and perfectly consciously,
in this new collection. There are almost imperceptible touches of
bright colours which hark back to the chromatic density of Japanese
enamels and porcelain, while his profound details reminds us of the
rarified perfection of the sumptuous designs found on some Japanese
silks.
In keeping with
the Murano tradition, which gives goblets and glasses pride of place
as the most characteristic products of the glass furnaces, Ohira has
given us further demonstration of how, even within a fixed and codified
scheme, it is still possible to come up with something new.
